ZigZag Lace Shawl

This is my first shawl. I love knitting lace patterns and this one is a very simple one, I even think beginners could handle this pattern. click on photos to enlarge so you will be able to see the lace pattern up close. This is my own creation, the pattern is below, if you find any errors please let me know. This shawl, finished and blocked measures 20"x60". To print off pattern, highlight, right click and choose print, then adjust your printing so it will print only what you have highlighted. This pattern is for personal use only, not for resale.

Materials: 800yds. of worsted weight yarn. I used knit picks "Wool of the Andes" 80% Peruvian highland wool, 20% Donegal tweed in color: "Barn Door Heather," 110yd/50gram skeins. You will need (8) 110yd. skeins.
Size 8 / 32" circular knitting needles, or long straights.
Stitch markers (optional) place at the beginning and end of lace pattern.
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge: you will get somewhere between 4.5-5 sts. per inch on size 6-9 needles. Gauge is not real important on this shawl, I tend to knit tight, so using size 8 needles my finished and blocked shawl measures 20"x 60"inches.

Patterns used for this shawl are below: Please read all instructions first before beginning.

Seed Stitch: *k1, p1, k1, repeat from * to end. Repeat this row to form seed stitch. This is a great reversible pattern and basically after working the first row, all other rows are worked by knitting the purl stitches and purling the knit stitches as you come to them. You need an uneven number of stitches for this pattern to work.

Zigzag Lace:
Row 1 (Wrong side) and all other wrong side rows - Purl.
Row 2 - k1, *k2tog, k4, (yo, k1) twice, ssk, k1; repeat from* 4 more x ( times.)
Row 4 - k1, *k2tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, k2, ssk, k1; repeat from * 4x
Row 6 - k1, *k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k3, ssk, k1; repeat from * 4x
Row 8 - k1, *k2tog, (k1, yo)twice, k4, ssk, k1; repeat from * 4x
Row 10 - k1, *k2tog, yo, k1, yo, k5, ssk, k1; repeat from * 4x
Row 12 - Repeat row 8.
Row 14 - Repeat row 6.
Row 16 - Repeat row 4.
Row 18 - Repeat row 2.
Row 20 - k1, *k2tog, k5, yo, k1, yo, ssk, k1; repeat from * 4x
Repeat rows 1-20 for pattern.

Shawl and Zigzag Lace Pattern Instructions:
This lace pattern is a multiple of 11 stitches plus 1.
The plus 1 is already included in the cast on stitches for this shawl. The 1 extra stitch is added to the cast on amount so pattern comes out correctly. If your intending to make this shawl wider, do not add an extra stitch to each repeat. It would just be 1 extra cast on stitch period, no matter how many repeats of this pattern you work.
This pattern has;  13 seed stitches - 5 zigzag repeats - 13 seed stitches per row, for a total of 82 cast on stitches. Excluding the beginning and ending rows which are, First 10 rows in seed stitch and Ending 10 rows in seed stitch, keeping seed stitch flowing correctly once you start the zigzag lace section.

Begin by casting on 82 stitches.
Work 10 rows in seed stitch pattern.
Next Row begin seed stitch borders and lace pattern by working 13 stitches in seed stitch, 5 zigzag lace repeats, and ending the row with 13 seed stitches. This constitutes one row.
Continue in this manner until you have completed 18 - lace pattern repeats consisting of 20 rows per repeat.
End shawl by working 10 rows of seed stitch.
Bind off in seed stitch pattern, not to tight and not too loose. Weave in ends of yarn, wash & Block.

Abbreviations:
k=knit
P=purl
