The Warmth Top
Here is the sweater from the book and yarn mentioned in the previous post. The yarn is "Montana" from Tahki Stacey Charles. It is a super bulky yarn so this knits up quick using a size 13 circular needle. It has a pouch style pocket at the lower front, which I love, and is knit using increases in each stitch and then dividing those stitches onto two needles. The front needle has the pocket stitches on it, and the back needle has the underside stitches on it. This is all done seamlessly, and was my first attempt at doing this kind of pocket construction. I learned a lot and had fun doing it. This sweater has this simple but fun zig-zag cable going up the front center, with clusters of bobbles. The pattern in the book shows the sweater with a wide turtleneck, but I did not want the turtleneck so I stopped just before and added a knit 2, purl 2, ribbing for about 2 rows and then bound off in rib. It worked out great, I love, love this sweater style/vest, and might make another one soon. It fits great! Click on the photo to bring it up in a bigger window, you can see the details a little better. This sweater, being dark brown, makes it a little harder to see the details. The book, "Finish-Free Knits", shows it in a lighter brown/beige color and it is easier to see the detail. If your seeing little white dots in the sweater, it is coming from the white dress form underneath, it's not holes or mistakes in my knitting. I probably should have put a brown shirt on the dress form first then put the sweater over that. You don't notice these things until you see the finished photo.
